Earlier today, we reported the rumor that not only has Captain Marvel been cast, but she’ll be making her first appearance in the already superhero-heavy Avengers: Age of Ultron. Having major superheroes make cameos or debut in other films from their respective studios has become the norm, so it’s hardly surprising to hear that X-Men: Apocalypse — which is said to primarily focus on the First Class cast — will feature a few cameos from other X-Men…including one pretty exciting mutant in particular.

It wasn’t that long ago that we learned Channing Tatum would be playing the role of Cajun mutant Gambit in an upcoming ‘X-Men’ spinoff film. To make the news a bit better, we also learned that ‘RoboCop’ remake writer Josh Zeteumer was working on the script, which is based on a treatment by ‘X-Men’ comics writer Chris Claremont, who also co-created the original character. And today, in even better news, Tatum has announced the release date for ‘Gambit,’ which will be coming to a theater near you in 2016.

We've known for some time that Channing Tatum has been confirmed to appear as Gambit in an upcoming 'X-Men' spinoff film, although how that film will (eventually?) connect to the current films is unclear. Today brings some further motion, as the film is most definitely moving forward, picking up screenwriter Josh Zetumer, who penned the 'RoboCop' remake. We've also learned some potentially good news: Zetumer's script will be based on a treatment by original 'X-Men' comics writer and Gambit co-creator Chris Claremont.

We all know at this point that it's just a matter of time before Channing Tatum plays Gambit in his own 'X-Men' spinoff. We confirmed that Tatum has indeed signed on to play the character he previously said he'd "die to play" in a movie...
