James Bond - Page 3
This Friday, James Bond returns to movie theater screens in Spectre, starring Daniel Craig as secret agent 007, license to kill. In this installment, Bond will do battle with the forces of SPECTRE, a criminal organization hellbent on world domination. He’ll also have to do battle with a different sort of ghost: The audience’s accumulated memories from 23 previous movies, stretching back more than half a century.
Although SPECTRE were the bad guys behind all of James Bond’s most famous adventures, including Dr. No and From Russia With Love, the criminal organization hasn’t been seen onscreen for almost 45 years, since 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever. That’s just one of the many facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which explores James Bond’s old haunts for a look at Spectre.
While promoting Spectre, Daniel Craig has been asked so much about whether or not he will play James Bond again that he rather slit his wrists than think of the possibility. In a recent interview with Time Out London, Craig was asked yet again if he’ll return to 007.
There’s been a whole lot of speculation and fantasy-casting when it comes to the future of the James Bond franchise. And while Daniel Craig is contracted for one more film after Spectre, the actor has been a little wishy-washy about whether or not he’ll actually follow through with another 007 outing. Rest easy, Bond fans, because Craig is definitely coming back for one more.
Sony debuted the final trailer for Spectre on Thursday, which features a handful of footage from the previous trailers, but includes some new action sequences and a better look at Christoph Waltz outside of the shadows.
There are a few immutable constants in this world that we look to as reminders of the natural order of all living things. The sun rises in the east. The Earth travels around the sun. James Bond drinks martinis, “shaken, not stirred.”
Sam Mendes has already said Spectre will be his last Bond film. So who will pick up the franchise afterwards? One filmmaker is already adding his name to the list of candidates: Denis Villeneuve.
Speculation over who might be the next James Bond has been running wild, especially with Daniel Craig’s contract expiring after one more 007 outing. Idris Elba is a popular choice among fans, though he’s sparked some debate given his age and recent comments from Bond author Anthony Horowitz, who caused a bit of a stir online earlier this month when he said Elba is “too street” for the part. But for those fans who really want to see the actor take on 007, this new mashup may be as close as we ever get.
