Could a 'Sandman' Movie Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt be in the Works?

by Jacob Hall November 20, 2013 @ 1:16 PM
Despite being one of the most beloved and critically acclaimed comic books of all time, Neil Gaiman's 'The Sandman' has yet to make it to the big screen. It's not like they haven't tried, of course. Multiple parties over the years have made attempts and they've all failed. Truth be told, it's a good thing they've failed since most of Hollywood's takes on Gaiman's dense fantasy mythos have sounded downright awful.
But now, like clockwork, another attempt to bring the tale of Morpheus and the Endless cinemas seems to be in the works.

Almost 20 years ago, 'The Usual Suspects' hit theaters and stunned audiences, turning Kevin Spacey into an Oscar-winning actor and Bryan Singer into an A-list director. But, what if he had to do it all over again?
Responding to a fan's question on Twitter, Singer revealed that if he had to cast a 'Usual Suspects' remake in 2013, this is who he'd want for the iconic roles.

Well, that was quick.
Just a few hours after word made its way to the internet that Marvel was looking at either Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Paul Rudd to star in 'Ant-Man,' Gordon-Levitt has squashed the rumors like an...well, you get the idea. Alright, the ball is in court now, Paul Rudd!

Though many of the biggest films of 2015 have chosen their potential release dates, few have filled up their casts, with many just offering casting rumors. The latest to tease its lead is Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man,' with the rumor being that Marvel is high on both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd.

It's easy to be jealous of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He's an incredibly talented (and good-looking) guy. He can act, sing, dance and with his latest movie, 'Don Jon,' he proves he can write and direct too. It's almost not fair. But, it's hard to hate a guy who is so damned nice. (Oh, did we mention he's also just about the nicest guy you could meet? Yeah, that too.)
We caught up with Gordon-Levitt to talk about the challenges of making his first movie, whether people take actors seriously as directors and, as a native New Jerseyan, how he and co-star Scarlett Johansson managed to so perfectly embody that Jersey style.

'Don Jon' Review

by Jordan Hoffman September 26, 2013 @ 8:00 AM
Before I write anything else about 'Don Jon': yes, there are some guys in Northern New Jersey who really do act this way. Some of the particulars are exaggerated, but not really. Whether the interior life of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's protagonist gym rat, club denizen, muscle car driver is accurate is something I'll never know, and considering the emotional dysfunction on display, I think I'm okay with it.

With the announcement that Ben Affleck will play the Dark Knight in the Batman and Superman-centric 'Man of Steel 2,' it reminds us how many actors were rumored or have played the part. Disregarding Batmans past, like Michael Keaton and George Clooney, there were a number of actors in contention. But who would you like to see play Batman in the movie?

'Don Jon' - Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut - has been surprising audiences all year at film festivals. We caught it at the SXSW earlier this year and, like the entire crowd, fell in love with it. 'Don Jon' is a smart, funny, charming and self-assured movie. This isn't just an actor writing and directing a movie because he's bored - this is the start of a whole new career for Gordon-Levitt, and one we couldn't look forward to more.
And, now is your chance. 'Don Jon' is opening in theaters this September, but why wait until then? We're holding an exclusive screening in New York City just for readers and we've got your free tickets.

It seems Marvel is not giving up on Joseph Gordon-Levitt. After considering him for the role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord for their upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' a role which ultimately went to the now-chiseled Chris Pratt, rumor has it that the thriving studio behind 'The Avengers' wants the 'Dark Knight Rises' star to become their 'Doctor Strange.'
