David Cronenberg’s output as of late has been fairly divisive, but that isn't keeping us from feeling supremely excited for Maps to the Stars, the director's latest film in which he appropriately brings his twisted sensibilities to the land of Hollywood. Today brings the red band trailer for the film, complete with a ringing endorsement from director John Waters, who proclaims to love the film more than his own mustache — which means a whole lot.

‘Seventh Son’ Review: Jeff Bridges Battles Julianne Moore, the Nagging Sense This Is a Crummy Fantasy Movie
This is the sort of week that makes a film critic questions their life choices: First, the Wachowski’s choppy, incoherent ‘Jupiter Ascending,’ and now the long-delayed (and likely soon-forgotten) ‘Seventh Son.’ Its trailer boasts that it comes “from the production company that brought you ‘300: Rise of an Empire,’” which is sort of like trying to convince someone to eat in a restaurant because the manager used to work in an Olive Garden. Isn’t January supposed to be the month where all the bad movies get dumped? The clunkers are spreading to February like a fungus.

Julianne Moore is nominated for two Best Actress Golden Globe awards this season: one for her performance as a woman struggling with early onset Alzheimer’s disease in ‘Still Alice,’ and the other for her performance as a fading actress in David Cronenberg’s ‘Maps to the Stars.’ Focus has just released a new trailer and poster for Cronenberg’s follow-up to ‘Cosmopolis,’ which is finally hitting theaters this February.

‘Seventh Son’ Trailer Reminds You This Movie Still Exists
The new ‘Seventh Son’ trailer is startling reminder that yes, this movie still exists and wasn’t something our addled brains cooked up while we were bed-ridden and battling a fever. Someone actually shot a movie where the great Jeff Bridges, complete with his trademark Rooster Cogburn mumble, plays a witch-hunting, monster-slaying magical warrior. And yes, you do remember correctly: this thing was supposed to come out in 2013 and yes, it was delayed to 2015. The word you’re looking for there is “Yikes.”

‘Still Alice’ Trailer: Julianne Moore Aims For an Oscar
It’s hard to believe that Julianne Moore, one the best and most versatile actresses working in modern film, doesn’t have an Academy Award. Sure, the Oscars are mostly nonsense that usually don’t reflect genuinely important cinema, but it still feels just plain wrong. Will the upcoming ‘Still Alice’ finally get her an overdue golden statuette? If the new trailer and the enormous amount of critical acclaim for her performance are any indication, it looks like she definitely has a shot.

341 movies were submitted, and nominating committees of “writers, directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, actors, critics, casting directors, film festival programmers, and other working film professionals” chose their favorites. (What, no caterers?) Those votes were tallied and the results are the nominees below, for the 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards, generally regarded as the most important and prestigious awards for independent film in the country.

'Maps to the Stars' Trailer: The Dark World of Stardom
After the film made the rounds at TIFF this year, with our own Mike Ryan calling it an "interesting bad movie," a new 'Maps to the Stars' trailer has debuted. It's pretty apparent from the footage that director David Cronenberg doesn't care too much for the glamorization of Hollywood. Still, without a clear Best Picture Oscar frontrunner just yet, this film remains one to watch.
