Jurassic World 2

‘Jurassic World 2’ will follow the events after the end of ‘Jurassic World’ when the Indominus Rex escaped its paddock and caused havoc throughout the park. Nothing is known yet about the film’s plot, but director Colin Trevorrow said he would not be returning to direct saying, “my interpretation of it is that this is a series that is best served by the Mission: Impossible model. The way they do it is they bring in a new voice every time and those movies have been consistently pretty awesome.” Both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are expected to return for the sequel.

‘Jurassic World 2’: a Metaphor for Modern Animal Treatment
The universe that Michael Crichton and Steven Spielberg created with 1993’s Jurassic Park is a world ripe with all kinds of possibilities. What would a world in which the resurrection of extinct species is a reality be like? Can an ostensibly foolproof system of controlling these creatures and making sure they don’t escape their enclosures really work? (No.) Does life, uh, find a way? (Yes.) This summer’s Jurassic World chose to tell a simpler, more action-y tale than its predecessors, but from what Colin Trevorrow has said about its sequel, Jurassic World 2 will take a more nuanced approach to the possibilities of genetically resurrected dinosaurs.

One of the biggest complaints (of which there were many) about Jurassic World was the over-abundance of CGI — it’s a simple problem that the upcoming sequel could address quite easily, and according to Colin Trevorrow, it’s definitely a concern shared by Jurassic World 2 director Juan Antonio Bayona. In a new interview, Trevorrow not only promises more animatronic dinosaurs, but more suspense and scares. Oh, and if you were hoping for some weaponized dinos (looking at you, Vincent D’Onofrio), you can stop holding your breath.

About a year ago, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow went on a Jurassic Park-themed podcast and talked about Universal’s plans to make his film the first in a trilogy of movies about dinosaur-induced mayhem. And while nothing really seemed to indicate that the creative team had switched gears since then, today we did finally get confirmation that a Jurassic World trilogy is still the plan going forward.

Despite lukewarm reviews, Jurassic World made more than enough bank at the box office to guarantee a sequel. Universal recently set a 2018 release date for Jurassic World 2, with The Impossible director Juan Antonio Bayona taking over for Colin Trevorrow, who will still work on the screenplay with co-writer Derek Connolly. With just under two years until the next installment in the franchise hits theaters, we’ve been wondering when Bayona & Co. might get to work, and according to a new rumor, it won’t be long from now.

Every single human being with access to a movie theater saw Jurassic World this summer, making it the highest grossing film of all time not directed by James Cameron (aka, the third highest grossing film of all time). A sequel was inevitable. But how about a trilogy? Because director Colin Trevorrow says that he always had a three-movie arc in mind. Now, $1.6 billion later, he’s able to start talking about it like a real thing that will actually happen and not some crazy plan.

Jurassic World is finally starting to slow down at the box office, but it’s going to bow out as the third highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office and international box office. That means that the only director to have made a more financially successful film than Colin Trevorrow is James Cameron of Titanic and Avatar fame. Not bad for a guy who was toiling away in indie obscurity a few years ago. Anyway, Trevorrow found some time in between taking baths in tubs filled with cash to chat about the inevitable sequel, dropping the first hints about what we can expect from the follow-up to Jurassic World.

Sequels, like evolution, are inevitable. Like genetically-modified dinosaurs, they cannot be stopped. When Jurassic World becomes the third highest-grossing movie of all time (not this year, not this decade; ever) you could bet your dino DNA that Universal was going to make another one. And now it’s official: an as-yet untitled Jurassic World sequel is coming to theater on June 22, 2018.

Here’s What You Can Expect From the ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel
Jurassic World just had the biggest opening weekend of all time, so yeah, there’s going to be a sequel. And yeah, there’s no way Universal is going to going to wait 14 years like they did after Jurassic Park III. They’re not even going to wait four years like they did after the first two movies. They are going to fast track this thing like you wouldn’t believe. Expect a Jurassic World sequel in two years, maybe three.
