Taken aback though fans of HBO’s The Leftovers were to learn that Season 3 would close out Damon Lindelof’s rapture drama for good, recent reports that the final year would move to Australia seemed perfectly in line with the myriad references of Season 2. The Leftovers Season 2 didn’t leave us with any indication that the Garvey family’s time in Miracle had come to an end, though with Season 3 confirmed as the show’s last, the Damon Lindelof rapture drama is in for another tectonic shift. The Leftovers will move the final chapter to Australia, both in story and production.

We’re less than a week removed from the tense and poignant finale of HBO’s The Leftovers Season 2, the cap to a 2015 run already dominating year-end Top 10 lists, though the series’ low ratings suggested an ominous future ahead. Well, there’s good news and bad, as The Leftovers will indeed return for a third year, albeit as a final season.

We all thought Patti Levin (Ann Dowd), the fearless leader of the Guilty Remnant, was gone after last season on The Leftovers. It was utterly brutal and painful to watch, but like many things on Damon Lindelof’s metaphysical series, trauma from the past doesn’t go away easily. Here’s what the actress had to say about the latest shocking episode of the HBO show.
