Speedy Gonzales might not be the first Looney Tunes character that comes to mind when you think of possible solo film spinoffs, but the lovable animated mouse is indeed getting his very own big screen outing. Why now? Why Speedy? According to the press release, the existence of Donald Trump makes Speedy and his diverse appeal more important than ever.
Here's some news we never expect to report today... Warner Bros. is planning a spinoff of their classic Looney Tunes franchise that would be based on Acme Corp. - the company which Wile E. Coyote and others use to buy their anvils, dynamite and earthquake pills - and would Steve Carell. And, before you ask, no, there won't actually be any Looney Tunes characters in the movie. Huh?
Warner Brothers has already tried twice to reset their most famous cartoon character in full-length adventures. The first time was in 1996 with the Michael Jordan-starring 'Space Jam.' It was a pretty terrible movie, but reasonably successful. Then in 2003 they tried again with 'Looney Tunes: Back in Action,' which is the better movie but bombed. Hopefully, the third time is the charm.
