The Supermovies Infographic: Now With Fewer Movies, Less Spider-Man

We always suspected this day would come; our Supermovies Infographic is actually shrinking. The announcement of a new deal between Sony and Marvel over the Spider-Man movies, which sees Spider-Man integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but still under Sony's control, has not only bumped a lot of release dates back to avoid a Marvel/Sony showdown, but has also pushed at least a couple of films off the chart completely.

For anyone who remembers the days when just one Spider-Man movie seemed an impossible dream, it’s an astonishing representation of how comic book superheroes now dominate popular entertainment. ComicsAlliance’s own graphics maestro Dylan Todd put together a timeline that reveals what the next six years of superhero movies look like, with some dates and titles still to be announced. Marvel Says Movies Are Planned Through 2021

One of the biggest reasons Marvel Studios is dominating the landscape of comic book movies is its strategy. The studio releases films in "phases," planning their next films years in advance to allow time to select the right writers, directors and cast. And now Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed that they've got films planned all the way through 2021.

While DC assembles its team for the 'Justice League' movie for a 2015 release, Marvel is busy doing the same. Aside from 'The Avengers 2' and the even more upcoming 'Iron Man 3,' 'Thor 2' and 'Captain America 2' flicks, Marvel Studios is busy trying to fill the cast of their next superhero movie 'Guardians of the Galaxy.'
It was discovered only a few weeks ago that a handful of actors were being considered for the lead role of Peter Quill, but it looks like we might be seeing a familiar face getting the gig as Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been thrown into the casting pool.

It's been a while since we last learned or saw anything new from the God of Thunder's next adventure in 'Thor 2.' We've been hearing all about this "Dark World" he's supposed to go venturing off in after the evil Dark Elves, but aside from a crowded fight scene and some pics of the set, we've had to rely on our imaginations as to how Malekith and his followers look... until now! As the world knows already, character actor Frank Grillo was recently cast as the villainous Crossbones in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.' These days, when you're lucky enough to find yourself in a Marvel movie, it seems as though you're gearing up not just for one flick, but for two or three. (Unless you're Hugo Weaving.) So does that indicate that Grillo's Crossbones will be making an appearance in a certain mega-gigantic-super-sequel that is scheduled for a May 1, 2015 release?
