Say what you want about the franchise as a whole, but the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies really do have a knack for casting. Incredible actors (and serviceable movie stars) have filled virtually every role in the series' large ensemble, so it's no surprise that the upcoming fifth film is looking to cast a beloved thespian. Two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz is reportedly in negotiations to join 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' as the latest villain to cross swords with Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow.
Pirates of the Caribbean
With the release of 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5,' titled 'Dead Men Tell No Tales,' moved to summer 2016, little is known about what we can expect from the fifth installment of the popular movie franchise. 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' is going to happen whether we like it or not. Sure, 2011's 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' might have been a heaping pile of junk, but it was a heaping pile of junk that made over $1 billion worldwide. What can we say? People just love Johnny Depp. But with director Rob Marshall not returning and original franchise helmsman Gore Verbinski long gone, who will step behind the camera? A few potential names have emerged.
Even though the fourth film in the franchise, 'Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,' was the lowest grossing of the franchise domestically, that film - boosted by 3D - managed to make over a billion dollars worldwide. So that a writer has been hired to write 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' should be no surprise.
