Shocker! Javier Bardem is up for another villain role! After recently portraying Bond baddie Silva in 'Skyfall,' another major franchise wants him play its bad guy -- 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5.' He must have the face for it or something.
Pirates of the Caribbean
'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' is still a thing that is happening despite the disappointing domestic box office of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' (thanks, Rest Of The World) and after years of behind the scenes turmoil, it looks like Disney has finally decided on a release date.
Say what you want about the franchise as a whole, but the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies really do have a knack for casting. Incredible actors (and serviceable movie stars) have filled virtually every role in the series' large ensemble, so it's no surprise that the upcoming fifth film is looking to cast a beloved thespian. Two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz is reportedly in negotiations to join 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' as the latest villain to cross swords with Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow.
With the release of 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5,' titled 'Dead Men Tell No Tales,' moved to summer 2016, little is known about what we can expect from the fifth installment of the popular movie franchise. Jeff Nathanson is busy rewriting his initial script treatment for directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, but now it seems the first details of the story have spilled out.
It's strange to think that a decade ago Captain Jack Sparrow wasn't really a "thing." But after four 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies and one on the way, an update to the original theme-park ride and plenty of merchandising, Sparrow has become a household name. So drink up, me hearties, as we check him out in today's Cosplay of the Day.
Originally popularized by Alfred Hitchcock, the term "MacGuffin" refers to an object, person or location that drives the plot of story, with characters generally struggling to obtain said object, person or location before the opposition
'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' is going to happen whether we like it or not. Sure, 2011's 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' might have been a heaping pile of junk, but it was a heaping pile of junk that made over $1 billion worldwide. What can we say? People just love Johnny Depp. But with director Rob Marshall not returning and original franchise helmsman Gore Verbinski long gone, who will step behind the camera? A few potential names have emerged.
Even though the fourth film in the franchise, 'Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,' was the lowest grossing of the franchise domestically, that film - boosted by 3D - managed to make over a billion dollars worldwide. So that a writer has been hired to write 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' should be no surprise.
