It wasn’t long (a few days, actually) after Disney announced plans for a new Mary Poppins movie that a rumor began circulating that the studio had their sights set on Emily Blunt to play the title role. Someone at Disney must have a pretty strong vision board because Blunt is officially in talks to play the part originated by Julie Andrews in the 1964 classic. Wishes really do come true.
Rob Marshall, director of such films as Chicago and last year’s Into the Woods, made a heroic effort during an conversation with Vulture to explain what, exactly, he intends his new Mary Poppins film to be without saying s-e-q-u-e-l.
t’s not out of the realm of possibility for Disney’s ‘Into the Woods’ to receive a couple of Oscar nods this season. It’s likely that Rob Marshall’s adaptation of the classic stage musical will get nominated for production design and/or costumes, at the very least, while star Meryl Streep might—just maybe—receive a nomination for her performance. The latest featurette for the film, which hit theaters on Christmas Day, takes us behind the scenes to show us the magic that went into bringing the woods to life.
The first 'Into the Woods' trailer left many people scratching their heads because it featured no singing for what is ostensibly a musical and it kept Johnny Depp, one of the biggest names in the cast, completely offscreen. However, Depp's Big Bad Wolf has made the cover of Entertainment Weekly (along with the rest of the ensemble cast), giving us our first look at Disney's favorite leading man in his latest wacky costume.
Things aren't looking too good for Johnny Depp lately. First the reports of budget issues on the set of 'The Lone Ranger,' and now Warner Bros. is stalling the remake of 'The Thin Man.'
