‘The Nice Guys’ TV Spot: Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe Play Nice for Shane Black

by Britt Hayes December 6, 2015 @ 11:15 AM
If you weren’t watching Ryan Gosling on SNL last night, then you missed the first TV spot for The Nice Guys, the new film from writer / director Shane Black, featuring Gosling and Russell Crowe. It’s a little shorter and more sanitized than that amazing red band trailer from a couple of days ago, but it’s still quite…nice.

While traditional live sketches are still the backbone of any given episode, modern SNL is frequently at its best in the pre-recorded segments. The past few years have seen an interesting evolution as the silly “digital shorts” of a decade ago have matured into full-blown filmmaking, with sketches that feel more like short films than just a comedy bit. Last night’s Ryan Gosling-hosted episode peaked with a pre-recorded sketch titled “Santa Baby,” which let both SNL and Gosling himself turn the weird up to 11.

Big SNL fans (and that includes us) tend to roll our eyes a little whenever an opening monologue revolves around the guest host breaking into song. It often feels like a last resort, like no one in the writers’ room could come up with a better idea. And while we want to turn up our nose at the show breaking out this formula for Ryan Gosling, we have to admit that they’ve made it work...mostly because they pair him with fellow Canadian and SNL veteran, Mike Myers.

SNL Ranked: Ryan Gosling Cracks Up in a Mostly Wonderful, Weird Episode

by Britt Hayes December 6, 2015 @ 8:52 AM
After taking a bit of a break from acting to make his directorial debut (and to have what I presume is a very adorable baby with Eva Mendes), Ryan Gosling is back. In addition to starring in upcoming films from Adam McKay and Shane Black, the actor is cementing his return with his SNL debut. Gosling can't keep a straight face through most of the episode, which delivers some really weird and delightful sketches with few disappointments. Read on for our ranking of this week's SNL sketches from best to worst.

If, like us, you’re a fan of the 2005 action-comedy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, you’ll be excited to know that writer-director Shane Black (Iron Man 3) has been working on a spiritual sequel. Starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, The Nice Guys opens in theaters next summer and you can get a look with this new, (very) red-band trailer.

SNL Preview: Ryan Gosling and Aidy Bryant Spit on a Baby

by Kevin Fitzpatrick December 2, 2015 @ 9:54 PM
SNL closed out November on something of sour note with Matthew McConaughey’s grand return, but December seems a much better bet by Ryan Gosling’s Saturday debut. Aidy Bryant welcomes Baby Goose in the first promos for SNL’s final three 2015 outings, but does she get a “Hey Girl” for her trouble?

Neil Armstrong Biopic Wants to Send Ryan Gosling to Space With ‘Whiplash’ Director

by Britt Hayes November 24, 2015 @ 4:49 PM
One small step for man, one giant step for mankind — we could be talking about the first moon walk, or we could be talking about Ryan Gosling. Or maybe both, as Universal is eyeing the actor to star in their upcoming Neil Armstrong biopic from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle and Spotlight scribe Josh Singer.

SNL Sets Tina Fey-Amy Poehler Dual Hosting, Hemsworth and Gosling for December

NBC / Warner Bros.
SNL bounced back nicely from Donald Trump this past weekend with The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks, looking even bigger this coming Saturday with Matthew McConaughey and Adele, but December 2015 will really go all out. Our final three hosts of the year include Ryan Gosling, Chris Hemsworth (poor Liam), and best of all, a dual Sisters hosting with SNL alum Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Ryan Gosling Confirms Role in ‘Blade Runner 2,’ Ridley Scott Reveals Opening Scene

For a while it didn’t seem like Ridley Scott would ever make his long-promised (threatened?) sequel to Blade Runner, which suited most fans of the classic dystopian sci-fi flick just fine. But when director Denis Villeneuve and cinematographer Roger Deakins signed on, suddenly Blade Runner 2 was not only actually happening, but it sounded like a great idea. Although he was previously only rumored for a role in the sequel, Ryan Gosling is now confirming his part in the film, while Scott has offered details on what we might expect from the opening scene.
