'Guardians of the Galaxy' hasn't even hit theaters yet, but we know it's got at least one major connection to 'The Avengers.' Aside from existing in the same cinematic playground, the intergalactic "Mad Titan" known as Thanos will be the future nemesis of The Avengers, in addition to being the evil puppet master of the villains in 'Guardians.' Does this mean Marvel will have both teams of superheroes crossover for one big team-up in a future movie?
When we first saw the villainous Thanos at the tail end of 'The Avengers,' fans knew what was coming. After all, you don't tease one of the biggest villains in the entirety of the Marvel universe without admitting that you're planning to translate the iconic "Infinity Gauntlet" storyline to the big screen. That probably won't happen until 'The Avengers 3,' but fret not, true believers: Thanos won't be hanging around offscreen for too much longer. He'll play a role in the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' and a new report gives us an idea of what he'll be doing in the film.
With 'Guardians of the Galaxy' set to launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe into space and beyond, the toy companies are responding appropriately. After all, you can't introduce the cosmic side of the Marvel world to mainstream audiences without throwing the real nerds a bone ... and by bone, we mean cool exclusive action figures that can only be picked up at Comic-Con 2014.
The name on everybody's lips in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Thanos. Ever since the epically powerful comic book bad guy made an appearance in the post-credits scene for 'The Avengers,' thereby confirming his presence in future movies, inquiring minds have been dying to know which actor will portray him on the big screen. According to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, an actor has already been cast, but he doesn't plan on spoiling the big reveal just yet.
While 'Thor: The Dark World' is ready to release itself on the American public this November 8, there's one other movie everyone's talking about, thanks to a small post-credits scene in the new 'Thor': 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' While we still have a ways to go before Marvel's space opera hits in 2014 -- and we even have the next 'Captain America' coming in between -- director James Gunn spoke up about loads of things to come.
All the focus on 'The Avengers 2' has recently fallen on one of the film's new additions, Quicksilver, as Fox has unexpectedly cast their own version in the new 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' (You can read all about that bit of drama here.) That said, we've lost sight a bit on what the Marvel sequel is ultimately about -- the new villain -- but director Joss Whedon has a lot to say about him.
Thanos (aka the most highly-anticipated villain in superhero movie history thanks to his minute-long cameo in 'The Avengers') is about to be a busy guy. Undoubtedly the main baddie in 'The Avengers 2,' the Mad Titan could end up appearing on the big screen before then; perhaps in 2014's 'Guardian of the Galaxy.' Find out what Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige is willing to reveal after the jump.
All the non-comic book lovers were scratching their heads at the end of 'The Avengers' when an image of the Mad Titan Thanos popped up in a bonus scene after the credits. Now, this big guy is the only thing anyone's talking about when on the subject of 'The Avengers 2.' We all assumed that moment was Joss Whedon's unofficial statement that Thanos would be our new villain in the sequel, but has it been made official? And what about the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie? Will Thanos be in that too?
If you've seen 'The Avengers' yet (and judging by the amount of money the thing has made, you maybe have seen it a few times), you're familiar with Thanos, the supervillain introduced at the end of the film. But you're probably less familiar with the actor behind the purple face. As 'Avengers' is set to hit DVD and Blu-ray later this month, let's meet the man behind the big bad of the Marvel movie universe.
So far most of our information, at least in regards to the latter, comes from the comics -- Thanos is a member of The Eternals, a group of god-like beings with immense power, far beyond that of humans. Thanos is referred to as the "Mad Titan" in the comics for attempting to demolish the entire human race with his Infinity Gauntlet, capable of manipulating, time, space, reality and even the human soul.
There's also talk that this entity will appear in the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' due to an analysis of the comic book plot on which the film is based. All that's left, really, is a high-profile actor to take on this role.
