Thanos (aka the most highly-anticipated villain in superhero movie history thanks to his minute-long cameo in 'The Avengers') is about to be a busy guy. Undoubtedly the main baddie in 'The Avengers 2,' the Mad Titan could end up appearing on the big screen before then; perhaps in 2014's 'Guardian of the Galaxy.' Find out what Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige is willing to reveal after the jump.
All the non-comic book lovers were scratching their heads at the end of 'The Avengers' when an image of the Mad Titan Thanos popped up in a bonus scene after the credits. Now, this big guy is the only thing anyone's talking about when on the subject of 'The Avengers 2.' We all assumed that moment was Joss Whedon's unofficial statement that Thanos would be our new villain in the sequel, but has it been made official? And what about the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie? Will Thanos be in that too?
If you've seen 'The Avengers' yet (and judging by the amount of money the thing has made, you maybe have seen it a few times), you're familiar with Thanos, the supervillain introduced at the end of the film. But you're probably less familiar with the actor behind the purple face. As 'Avengers' is set to hit DVD and Blu-ray later this month, let's meet the man behind the big bad of the Marvel movie universe.
So far most of our information, at least in regards to the latter, comes from the comics -- Thanos is a member of The Eternals, a group of god-like beings with immense power, far beyond that of humans. Thanos is referred to as the "Mad Titan" in the comics for attempting to demolish the entire human race with his Infinity Gauntlet, capable of manipulating, time, space, reality and even the human soul.
There's also talk that this entity will appear in the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' due to an analysis of the comic book plot on which the film is based. All that's left, really, is a high-profile actor to take on this role.
'The Avengers' Blu-ray will hit stores in September, but Marvel released a teaser for the upcoming home video release: the post-credits scene that shows off the presumed 'Avengers 2' villain Thanos.
