A strange thing happened during the production of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.' Shailene Woodley was cast in the small role of Mary Jane Watson, AKA, the love of Peter Parker's life, but the part was completely excised in post-production for reasons that remain nebulous. Although she will not be appearing in the second film of the rebooted superhero franchise, some have wondered if she would be brought back for the inevitable third and fourth films ... and now we have an answer.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man just got a much bigger neighborhood.
Sony Pictures has officially announced their 'Amazing Spider-Man' spinoffs, expanding the Spidey universe with 'Venom' and 'The Sinister Six' films.
The 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' trailer will be online Thursday and promises to give us our first real look at what to expect from the upcoming sequel. One thing is becoming clear, though: this is not just a "Rise of Electro" movie and very much the beginning of The Sinister Six. Even the brand new plot synopsis talks of Spidey's new "formidable villains."
We've heard rumblings of the Sinister Six in future 'Amazing Spider-Man' movies, a plan that would theoretically bring back villains from the first film and the upcoming 'Amazing Spider-Man 2.' Now, we seemingly have some confirmation of that plan as Paul Giamatti has confirmed that he will return as The Rhino in 'Amazing Spider-Man 3.'
In 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' our favorite webslinger will due battle against the Rhino and, the main villain of the film, Electro. However, Paul Giamatti (playing the former) recently revealed that he's only one of several villains lurking around, inciting once again the long-rumored involvement of the Sinister Six in this or subsequent installments. But now this rumor seems like more than just a possibility as Jamie Foxx confirms this is an idea being thrown around.
There's been a lot of Venom talk these last couple of days. We recently saw a cool short film focusing on the 'Spider-Man' villain, there was an update a few months ago on his rumored solo film, and just yesterday 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' screenwriters were giving props aplenty to the toothy character. Does all this Venom love mean we might be seeing him in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3'? If so, would that be a good thing?
The lightning bolts coming out of Electro's fingers aren't the only things shocking on the set of 'Amazing Spider-Man 2.' Despite filming on the 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' set for a few weeks earlier this spring, actress Shailene Woodley (who signed on to play Peter Parker's future love interest, Mary Jane Watson) has been cut from the film entirely. So ... what exactly happened? Some spoilers ahead as we explain ...
'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' has already been thrown on a slab and dissected over and over again. Fans have approached each set photo, leaked or otherwise released by director Marc Webb himself, as potentially foreshadowing some shrouded event(s). Many have already suggested appearances by Venom and the Green Goblin, but now the latest rumor getting all the buzz is coming from one of the more recent casting additions, said to ultimately lead up to the big baddy (or baddies) coming in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3.'
