Anyone who follows the box office will look upon this weekend's results and feel strong pangs of deja vu. Isn't this the same thing as las week?! Pretty much, yeah. The vast majority of the top ten stayed in the same position as last weekend thanks to an incredibly weak crop of new releases, making these some of the strangest box office numbers seen in 2012.
Collaborators Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are back with a sequel to their 2009 film 'The Collector'; but where that film felt tight, focused and atmospheric, 'The Collection' perhaps expands its world a little too much and feels a bit deflated.
2009's 'The Collector' rests comfortably in the upper echelon of 'Saw' rip-offs, due in no small part to writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, longtime veterans of Lionsgate's flagship horror series. With that series stalled out after seven films, the duo have returned to their other "masked man builds traps and kills people" franchise with 'The Collection,' which has a brand new poster.
Not to pre-judge ‘The Collection’ sight unseen, but when a movie’s banner claims to be from the “twisted” writers of ‘Saw IV,’ ‘V,’ ‘VI’ and ‘VII,’ it doesn’t instill the utmost confidence.
