Spider-Man is about to face his most "sinister" challenge yet! No, we're not talking about the logline for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.' We're referring to the fact that the movie universe is about to branch out into a slew of spinoffs, including ones for 'Venom,' a female-led film, and, of course, the 'Sinister Six.' A recent teaser for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Spider-Man 2' hit the web, hinting at what we can expect from the ultimate villain team-up through new concept art.

ScreenCrush’s Comic Strip is a weekly roundup of the hottest superhero movie/TV news items. From Marvel to DC and points in between, if it pertains to costumed comic book heroes, we’re covering it here, bringing you our expert analysis. This week, 'The Sinister Six' makes a confusing announcement, DC preps nine new movies, and the X-Men kick butt in a trio of new clips.
With the recent news that 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' would feature footage from 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' as its post-credit sequence, it opened the door to the idea of possible future crossovers. But the producers of the current Spider-Man movies are pretty positive we'll never see the web slinger working alongside Tony Stark.
Though we're still a couple weeks away from the release of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' Sony is really excited about their 'Spider-Man' brand plans, as they've all but confirmed that 'The Cabin in the Woods' helmer Drew Goddard will be directing 'The Sinister Six,' which Goddard is also currently writing.
It didn't come as much of a surprise when Sony revealed that there would be two more sequels following 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' in 2016 and 2018. What did come as a surprise was the announced spinoffs, which would delve even further into the Spider-Man universe. The most interesting of them is also the strangest: 'The Sinister Six,' a movie starring a roster of Spidey's deadliest enemies.
And according to new statements from Sony, the seeds for this film have been planted in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.'
It's a good thing people really like Spider-Man because he's the one thing Sony seems to be relying on at the multiplex. Although the studio fell on rough times these past few years, 2012's 'The Amazing Spider-Man' was a big hit and this year's 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' looks ready to rock the box, as well. But how much Spidey will audiences tolerate before they pull a J. Jonah Jameson and declare him a menace? Well, the folks at Sony are ready to push their luck on that front with plans to release one Spider-Man movie a year for the foreseeable future.
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man just got a much bigger neighborhood.
Sony Pictures has officially announced their 'Amazing Spider-Man' spinoffs, expanding the Spidey universe with 'Venom' and 'The Sinister Six' films.
