Adios summer, the fall festival season has begun! On the heels of the Venice and Telluride film festivals, the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival kicks off this week with a handful of films we can’t wait to see. The fall festivals are a time when we can finally put the ugly remnants of summer movie season behind us (especially this year), and get a look at the movies that may redeem the year in cinema.

With a summer movie season as bad as this one, the closer we get to fall festivals, the better. In a little over a month we’ll get our first look at the the fall movie season when the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival kicks off on September 8. TIFF is the major fall festival, following Venice and Telluride, that gives us our first glimpse at major awards season players.

Every noteworthy film festival has a specific personality, honed over the years as the programmers learn all about their audience. The personality for the Toronto International Film Festival seems to be “come watch every single movie you want to see from every single filmmaker you have any interest in” because year after year, the fest can’t help but amaze with its line-up. The 2015 slate is no different, featuring the latest films from Ridley Scott, Jean-Marc Vallee, Roland Emmerich, Stephen Frears, Tom McCarthy, Cary Fukunaga, and more.

The Toronto International Film Festival is considered by many critics and movie fans to be the best in the world, and the list of titles announced for this year's fest is compelling evidence that this is true. In addition to the star-studded gala premieres, the festival is hosting all kinds of fascinating films that you're going to want to keep an eye on.

While the Toronto International Film Festival is still underway, everyone is anxious to see the first showing of films like 'Cloud Atlas' and 'Argo,' and get as much information on the stars' future projects. Though the actors and actresses only attended the festival to see the premieres and promote their current works, everyone wanted to grill them on their much-talked-about, upcoming films.
For Chris Evans, that meant getting as many details about 'Captain America 2' (dubbed 'The Winter Solider') from him as possible. Thankfully, this time around, 'The Avengers' star gave us some actual information we can work with.

'Cloud Atlas,' the latest and much-anticipated movie from the Wachowski siblings, recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and much like those two trailers we got a look at, some are completely blown away by the fantastical imagery and others are utterly locked in a state of confusion.
