With Atomic Blonde hitting theaters next week and Gal Gadot continuing to smash box office records as Wonder Woman, it feels like a pretty sweet time for badass women on screen. That makes the arrival of the Proud Mary trailer even more exciting. A thriller where Taraji P. Henson plays an assassin? Two tickets please!

I knew nothing of this movie until the first poster caught my eye earlier this week. The 1970s-styled one sheet pops with bright colors, a swanky font, and a shadowy outline of Henson in a leather jacket with a gun, a nice allusion to Pam Grier’s Foxy Brown and Coffy. BuzzFeed debuted the first trailer today, and though there’s not much revealed as far as plot, it’s a fun display of Henson shooting up and sliding her way through various locations with various weapons. And honestly, that’s enough to sell me and make me forget this movie is from the guy who directed London Has Fallen. Plus, Henson is always a delight to watch, whether she’s playing the sly Cookie Lyon or the whip smart Katherine Johnson of Hidden Figures.

The trailer’s sharp and slick editing, all to the tune of Ike and Tina Turner’s cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary,” recalls the Atomic Blonde trailers and the chase sequences of Baby Driver, all pluses in my book. If this turns out to have the quick momentum and energy of either of those, it might be a fun addition to the slog of January releases when it hits theaters next year on January 12.
