'Tarzan' is about to swing into a theater near you with a big-budget new reboot at Warner Bros. David Yates, who directed the last four 'Harry Potter' films, has committed to direct an adaptation of 'Tarzan of the Apes' after years of development at the studio. And who does the studio want to star as their jungle king? Why, their favorite 'Dark Knight Rises' villain, of course.

While the project is still in the very early stages and casting has not yet begun, Vulture reports that Warner Bros. would very much like to cast Tom Hardy as Tarzan but has yet to actually meet with the actor about the part (and, as they note, it's unclear if Hardy shares their enthusiasm at all). Hardy is currently shooting 'Mad Max: Fury Road' in Namibia.

Other actors reportedly on the Warner Bros. shortlist include Henry Cavill ('Man of Steel'), Charlie Hunnam ('Sons of Anarchy') and Alexander Skarsgard ('True Blood'). The studio recently worked with Cavill on their upcoming Superman film but would he want to tackle two iconic roles back-to-back.

While Skarsgard seems like a decent-enough choice, we can't really shake the notion of Hardy as Tarzan. And, if we're being honest, reuniting him with his 'Dark Knight Rises' star Anne Hathaway, who would make the perfect Jane Porter. Hardy, known for his Method dedication to his roles would surely spend at least a month in the jungle preparing for a role as Tarzan and that we kinda need to see.

What do you think? Will 'Tarzan' be a flop like 'John Carter' or a successful re-introduction of the classic character? And if not Tom Hardy, who do you think should play the part?
