Penelope Cruz is the latest on a list of prestigious names joining Ridley Scott's 'The Counselor,' an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's first screenplay that's already drawn big names like Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and soon-to-be wife Angelina Jolie.

But Pitt and Jolie aren't going to be the only beautiful couple on set...

THR reports that Cruz is in negotiations to star alongside her husband Javier Bardem in the film. The pair have worked together before on 'Jamon Jamon,' Woody Allen's 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona,' and most recently, the making of their own child.

'The Counselor' is a gritty drama that takes place on the Mexican border, when an attorney (Fassbender) gets wrapped up in the cocaine trade with some financial assistance from Bardem's character. As expected from a McCarthy story, the whole business unravels in a most unsavory and violent fashion.

Cruz's role in the film would be as Fassbender's love interest, making her the most enviable woman in Hollywood this side of whoever Ryan Gosling is taking to Disneyland this week. Jolie is still in talks to star as another love interest in the film. Could she be signing on as Bardem's lover? It could be the greatest wife swap since key parties were involved -- you know, back in old timey days.
