What happens when Guillermo del Toro loses one of the most in-demand stars for his upcoming haunted house thriller? He replaces him with Loki himself. 'Thor' and 'Thor 2' fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston has been announced to replace Benedict Cumberbatch in a lead role for 'Crimson Peak.'

Cumberbatch recently dropped out of the project and took the lead in James Gray's adaptation of 'Lost City of Z,' which left a major hole in the cast that already includes Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska. Now, according to THR, Hiddleston has filled the void.

Shooting on 'Crimson Peak' is set to kick off in January 2014. Official plot details on the film are still unknown, although bits and pieces have leaked out over the previous months. So far we know from del Toro himself that "it’s set at the turn of the century and it is a gothic romance with ghosts ... Dark and stormy and wind-swept." Further reports state that at the center of it all is a woman discovering that her husband is not whom she believes him to be.

Aside from 'Thor 2,' dubbed 'The Dark World,' Hiddleston will play the infamous Captain Hook in the next Tinkerbell movie from Disney, 'Tinkerbell and the Pirate Fairy,' along with 'Mad Men' starlet Christina Hendricks, in addition to an appearance in 'Muppets Most Wanted.' As Marvel stated in the past, we have not heard the end of Hiddleston and will surely see more from him soon.
