Today, Tomorrowland director Brad Bird tweeted out this interesting video, which takes you inside the formation of Plus Ultra — what is Plus Ultra, you ask? It’s the combination of four of the greatest minds in the world, who joined forces to dedicate their lives to “the cultivation of man’s greatest resource: imagination.” The animated video, along with a new viral site, add interesting new layers to the upcoming adventure film.

Tomorrowland takes its name from Walt Disney’s own creation, a place that fosters invention and imagination to advance our world for a brighter future. We know Disney himself has something to do with the Tomorrowland movie, and the above supplemental video from Brad Bird could hold some clues. The animation is very classic, evoking the spirit of vintage Disney informational cartoons. And for all the futuristic elements of Tomorrowland, our greatest hope is that the film can capture some of those simple, magical components of Disney’s past.

In addition, Disney has released a new promo for the film (below), which directs viewers to the official interactive site: takemetotomorrowland.com.

From Disney comes two-time Oscar winner Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, hitting theaters May 22, a riveting mystery adventure starring Academy Award-winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world – and them – forever.

Tomorrowland arrives on May 22.
