What’s a Vin Diesel movie without the possibility of a sequel to a Vin Diesel movie? The actor has grown quite comfortable starring in franchises, from Riddick to Fast and Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy, but there’s one older Diesel property that the actor thinks deserving of a sequel: Brad Bird’s The Iron Giant.

The other day we brought you a trailer for the remastered re-release of the animated cult classic, which is hitting theaters this fall to coincide with the long-awaited Blu-ray release. Diesel posted the trailer on his own Facebook page, where he added:

I have been very lucky to have played so many interesting characters… one of the first and one of my favorites is… the Iron Giant.

P.s. Don’t be surprised when you hear WB announce the sequel.

Diesel lent his voice to the friendly robot in the 1999 animated film, which wasn’t very popular upon initial theatrical release, but went on to find new life on home video and is now (rightfully) regarded as a classic. Since then, director Brad Bird has gone on to direct The Incredibles and Ratatouille for Pixar, as well as live-action films like Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and more recently, Tomorrowland.

Bird is currently prepping a long-awaited sequel to The Incredibles for Pixar, so it doesn’t seem like he’ll have any free time to devote to an Iron Giant sequel in the near future. The theatrical re-release could let WB gauge the demand for a sequel, but they may have to find someone else to direct it — and does anyone really want a sequel to The Iron Giant without Bird’s involvement? Not likely.
