Coulson lives!  The two words Marvels 'The Avengers' fans have been longing to hear ever since the movie's credits rolled, and Marvel began announcing all the various films and projects that would comprise "Phase 2" of its superhero empire.  But with ABC's recent announcement of a 'S.H.I.E.L.D' TV series under Joss Whedon set for the future, is there any real chance of seeing Clark Gregg return to his beloved role as Agent Phil Coulson?

Details of the forthcoming ABC 'S.H.I.E.L.D' TV series have yet to be revealed, but it's no secret that fans want Clark Gregg to return to the (deceased) role of Agent Phil Coulson, at least in some capacity.  Fan desire has run amok ever since - SPOILER - Joss Whedon had Loki kill off the character in the long-awaited superhero team-up flick, covering everything from wild theories to sculpts of the actor taking up iconic 'Avengers' android The Vision, though the actor himself isn't keen on ruling out a return:

Speaking to Movies.com, Gregg wouldn't confirm whether or not we'd see the character in live-action again, but did point toward his continuing work as the character in Disney's 'Ultimate Spider-Man' cartoon.  Gregg also spoke highly of the creative team at Marvel, alluding to the fact that he's entertained the idea of taking up writing or directing duties with them.  But what of the announcement of the 'S.H.I.E.L.D' TV series, one which fans bemoan that Coulson's character would fit perfectly?

You know what, that was the moment when I went, 'Great, they're doing the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show and I'm on a slab!'

Still, Gregg wouldn't rule out the oft-debated "Vision" theory either, continuing fan hope that the character could find new life someday:

You know the Vision is synthetic with a soul, sort of, and he's an amazing character who I loved when I used to read those comics. I love the idea of Coulson as that guy, but I don't know if that's in the cards.

So, what do you think?  Could Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson see the light of day once more on the 'S.H.I.E.L.D' TV series after all?  How would you like to see the character incorporated?  Tell us what you want from the 'S.H.I.E.L.D' TV series in the comments below!
