A ‘Bad Boys’ TV Series Is Happening With Gabrielle Union’s Character
Bad Boys 3 may never get off the ground, but a TV spinoff just got real. New reports suggest that Sony Pictures TV is pitching a small-screen version of the Bad Boys franchise both starring, and based around Gabrielle Union’s DEA character.
According to Deadline, Bad Boys producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Doug Belgrad are pitching the untitled series through 2.0 Entertainment and Primary Wave Entertainment, with Union attached to reprise her role as Special Agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett (sister to Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett). The new series will be penned by The Blacklist writer-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier.
Additional executive producers include Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed, NBC Universal TV Entertainment chairman Jeff Gaspin and Union’s manager Jeff Morrone. In the meantime, Martin Lawrence recently doubted Bad Boys 3 might happen, given that Joe Carnahan left the project and Will Smith was busy with another movie.
The new Bad Boys series has already “garnered strong interest from multiple places and is expected to land a major commitment,” but will Union’s spinoff replace a third movie, or at least offer an update on Mike and Marcus?
