Martin Lawrence Doesn’t Think ‘Bad Boys 3’ Is Going to Happen
So, how about that Bad Boys sequel? We haven’t heard anything about Bad Boys 3, a.k.a. Bad Boys for Life, for a while, and that might be because it’s being shelved. One of the stars, Martin Lawrence, does seem to think so.
While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence gave a possibly unfortunate update on the movie:
I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out. Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen.
Will Smith has signed on to play the genie in Disney’s live-action Aladdin, and recently finished filming David Ayer’s logic-defying orc cop movie Bright for Netflix. We don’t know if he’ll be back for Suicide Squad 2 yet, but hey, a paycheck is a paycheck.
Lawrence, for his part, is ready for Bad Boys 3 whether it happens or not.
I’m there, I’m ready right now. [Laughs] If they wanted to do it, I’m ready, but I don’t have control of that. That’s the studio’s decision.
Last we heard of Bad Boys 3, director Joe Carnahan had taken his leave after the movie had just gotten another release date delay to January 12, 2018 — which, if they still plan to film it this year, doesn’t really give them enough time at this point. Unless they’ve already made it, and are just toying with us. Doubtful, though. It’s possible that Columbia has dragged its feet on the project for so long that the stars have taken the chance to move on to something with a more likely outcome. If this never comes to fruition, at least we’ll have the first two forever.
