Best Movie Trailer of 2012: ‘Iron Man 3′ Is King of the Coming Year

2012 was a huge year trailer-wise for some of the most hyped-up films, like 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' 'The Great Gatsby,' 'Pacific Rim' and 'The Lone Ranger.' Though it turns out that movie fans are still on the superhero movie streak as they've honored 'Iron Man 3' with having the Best Movie Trailer of 2012.

Continuing in the winner announcements for the 2012 ScreenCrush Awards, 'Iron Man 3's' action-packed trailer, featuring the title star Robert Downey Jr. back for the third installment of Marvel's superhero flick, was so mind blowing that fans have chosen it as one of the top highlights of the past year. It probably had something to do with the epic countdown to the trailer, which involved a Facebook unlock challenge that revealed teaser footage of the trailer and continued on with the release of new stills before ultimately unveiling the footage.

Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby' and Guillermo del Toro's 'Pacific Rim' tried this same strategy, with the former releasing about one character poster a day until the trailer premiere and the latter with a timed countdown the morning of. They must have done something wrong, though, 'cause these films didn't even make the top five. Guess no one can go up against Iron Man.
