The New ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Poster Is a Technicolor Burst of Blue and Orange
The latest Blade Runner 2049 poster doesn’t give us any clues about who’s a replicant and who’s not, or what androids dream about, or what this war that they keep mentioning in the trailers is all about, but it is a very cool-looking retro-style let’s-stack-all-the-stars-on-top-of-each-other image tinted in extreme shades of orange and turquoise. Love it.
We’ve got guys, guns, and girls — well, one girl — and a couple of glowy billboards that make the whole thing look way more like a Tron movie than a Blade Runner sequel. At least Ryan Gosling’s collar isn’t ridiculously high this time.
While it doesn’t scream Blade Runner to me immediately, what I like about this one is all the intense colors. For all that the original Blade Runner was dark and rainy, it was still tinged with bright streetlamps and neon lights. So much sci-fi these days is gray and muted. Blade Runner 2049 looks like the perfect antidote for that. (Thanks Roger Deakins.)
Here’s the synopsis:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters October 6.
