Helena Bonham Carter may have proven largely extraneous to both the plot and failures of this past weekend's 'The Lone Ranger,' but that won't stop fans of the chameleon actress from checking out her turn as Elizabeth Taylor in BBC's forthcoming drama adaptation, 'Burton & Taylor.' Lindsay Lohan in 'Liz & Dick' this ain't, and we've got the first look at the production's new trailer!

Also starring 'The Wire' actor Dominic West, 'Burton & Taylor' will differentiate itself from Lifetime's poorly received biopic by forgoing the broad historical strokes, and instead focusing on the pair’s time starring in 'Private Lives' on Broadway, all the while struggling to keep their own private lives out of the limelight. Irony!

Says the BBC of the project:

We are thrilled to bring 'Burton and Taylor' to BBC America's Dramaville. With the incredibly talented and award-winning Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West in the title roles and a compelling script from William Ivory, 'Burton and Taylor' captures the final and complicated reunion on stage of two British and Hollywood icons. We’re excited to tell this story in the tradition of the great BBC dramas our audience has come to expect.

'Burton & Taylor' won't air on the BBC America network until sometime in 2014, after it premieres in the UK, as tends to be the case with BBC productions. In the meantime, check out the trailer above, and tell us if you'll tune in to see Helena Bonham Carter pick up where Lindsay Lohan so poorly left off!
