‘Da Vinci’s Demons': Poster for Starz’ Newest Hero Takes Flight

'Spartacus: War of the Damned' may come to an end after just eight more episodes, but Starz isn't exactly going to leave us high and dry for new period action. On April 12 the network will invent its latest high-concept success, as 'Da Vinci's Demons' takes flight highlighting a new side to one of history's greatest minds. April 12 will see the rebirth of Starz' newest historical hero, as executive producer David S. Goyer (‘The Dark Knight,’ ‘Man of Steel') reinvents famed inventor Leonardo Da Vinci as a roguish action hero for the network's new series 'Da Vinci's Demons.' Another thrilling re-imagining along the lines of Starz’ other genre epics, the series tells the unheard tale of Da Vinci (Tom Riley)’s action-packed youth, as he “sets knowledge free, defies authority and throws himself into the future, forever changing the fate of mankind.”

Starz and Entertainment Weekly have released a new poster for the forthcoming series, which borrows a few of Da Vinci's real-life designs to further paint the character as a sort of angelic hero, with a pinch of superhero added in. Goyer recently likened Da Vinci to some of the other superheroes he’d written, including Batman and the ‘Man of Steel.’ “We’ve embellished it with what I’m calling historical fantasy; he had an incredible life and we didn’t have to embellish as much as you’d think,” Goyer says. “I didn’t want to do Ye Olde Historical Drama; I wanted to do something historical, viewed through a modern prism.”
