The bizarre '80s inspired first-person shooter Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was a big hit for Ubisoft, as in just three months it's already sold half-a-million copies.

The news comes from Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot, who told Games Industry he was "very happy" with Blood Dragon's performance. An off-shoot of Far Cry 3, though with very little in common with its bigger retail brother, Blood Dragon also spiked interest (and sales) in the original game on PC.

As a downloadable extension of the Far Cry brand, Blood Dragon exceeded Ubi's expectations. Guillemot added this game's success could pave the way for more experiments in downloadable expansions in the future, too.

For what it's worth, we had a blast with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and are glad to see its success means Ubi is willing to try more similar adventures in the future.
