'Frankenweenie' will have a big presence at Comic-Con 2012 (there are already banners hanging up in San Diego) but Walt Disney Pictures has even more plans for Tim Burton's animated film: a film festival. 'Frankenweenie' will serve as the opening night film at Fantastic Fest 2012.

Fantastic Fest is the Austin-based film festival that takes place at the Alamo Drafthouse theaters and is billed as the film festival "with all the boring parts cut out." Cue 'Frankenweenie.'

Disney's upcoming film will world premiere on September 2oth as the opening night film for Fantastic Fest 2012, which takes place from September 20-27 in Austin.

Said Fantastic Fest Creative Director Tim League:

Tim Burton stands as a titan of modern genre cinema.  To world premiere the feature adaptation of his early beloved short is a huge honor for me personally and for the festival in general.

Previous world premieres at Fantastic Fest have included 'There Will Be Blood,' 'Apocalypto,' 'Zombieland' and 'Red.'

'Frankenweenie' hits theaters on October 5th. For more on Fantastic Fest, visit their official site here, and check out the official Fantastic Fest 2012 poster below.
