We've known about this Freddie Mercury biopic and Sacha Baron Cohen's tentative involvement for some time now, but thanks to an update from the legendary Queen frontman's former guitarist, we now know it's 100% officially happening.

According to the LA Times, Queen guitarist Brian May updated the band's website last week regarding the Freddie Mercury biopic -- a highly-anticipated film that's been in the works for years now. Director Stephen Frears ('The Queen,' 'High Fidelity') was touted as a possibly director for the project earlier this year, but it doesn't seem that they've nailed anyone down to helm the film just yet.

May does, however, confirm Sacha Baron Cohen's involvement and their schedule for shooting and releasing the film:

Our main agenda was the Freddie film … which, I'm happy to tell you, is on course. The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule -- filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014.

Cohen might seem like the obvious choice for the role of Mercury, appearance-wise, but we have no doubt that the versatile actor -- who is known more for his outlandish comedic roles -- would be fantastic in the part. And really, we just want to see him in those amazing and iconic Freddie Mercury spandex outfits.
