If you only pay attention to blockbuster movies, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Geena Davis was no longer active as an actress. You’d be wrong. Davis has been anything but quiet, continuing to act full-time on shows like The Exorcist while serving as a force for gender equality in Hollywood. The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, created by the actress in 2004, has worked with creators to help improve the representation of women in Hollywood films and television shows. Davis has also launched her own film festival, the Bentonville Film Festival, with the stated mission of selecting films that celebrate diversity.

So of course Davis, a former action star and current representation advocate, would fall in love with Patty Jenkins’ work on Wonder Woman. In a recent interview with Variety (via Heroic Hollywood), Davis admitted that she was “so beyond thrilled” with how Jenkins’ film turned out, and had even approached the director about appearing in a second part:

I met Patty Jenkins and I told her, “I’m sure you’re going to make a sequel and if you need anybody Amazonian, there’s always me. I’m available.”

Well, that one’s a no-brainer, Warner Bros. For years, Davis was the very definition of a female action star, appearing in movies like The Long Kiss Goodnight and A League of Their Own as women who proved they were capable of doing everything men could do (and then some). Hitting home runs? Shooting people in the head? Davis was right there with the best of them, and giving her an opportunity to join the cast of Wonder Woman 2 would be both a welcome nod to Davis’ own storied career as well as a welcome addition to the powerful women of Themyscira. In fact, let’s have the Wonder Woman series honor all the great female action stars of the eighties and nineties! Who needs The Expendabelles when you’ve got Greek demigods?
