Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn Reunite for New Crime Thriller From ‘Bone Tomahawk’ Director
Pop quiz — Is Dragged Across Concrete: A. The name of a ’90s post-grunge album, B. The way you feel every morning when you wake up and read that day’s onslaught of terrible news from Trump’s America, or C. The name of a new crime drama starring Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn? If you read the headline, you know the answer is C, obviously (but the other two are pretty believable).
THR reports that Gibson and his Hacksaw Ridge star are reuniting, this time with both in front of the camera for Dragged Across Concrete, a new crime thriller from Bone Tomahawk writer / director S. Craig Zahler. The filmmaker is also pulling double-duty on his latest project, which puts a gritty spin on the familiar old-timer / young gun buddy cop narrative:
The script centers on two policemen, one an old-timer (Gibson), the other his volatile younger partner (Vaughn), who find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics become the media’s cause du jour. Low on cash and with no other options, these two embittered soldiers descend into the criminal underworld to gain their just due, but instead find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows.
Two things: One, that premise totally does not at all sound potentially controversial. And two, I really hope the thing waiting for them in the shadows turns out to be Meryl Streep, there to claim her vengeance for Gibson and Vaughn’s ridiculous facial expressions during her Golden Globes speech.
Anyhow…Dragged Across Concrete is also a reunion between Zahler and Vaughn, as the actor starred in the filmmaker’s upcoming Brawl in Cell Block 99.
