The first official 'Greetings from Tim Buckley' trailer has dropped, featuring 'Gossip Girl' star Penn Badgley in the role of iconic rock star Jeff Buckley...but can he fill such big shoes? The answer seems to be yes.

Our own Jordan Hoffman is quoted in this first trailer for 'Greetings from Tim Buckley,' calling the film "one of the finest origin stories in recent pop culture history," and we're hoping he's right. (Read his full review here.)

One of two Jeff Buckley biopics (the other is still in the works), 'Greetings' follows Buckley (Penn Badgley) as he's summoned to play in a tribute concert for his late and oft-absent father, Tim. Trying to make a name for himself and escape the shadow of a man who wasn't around much, Jeff struggles to find his own voice with the help of a lady love interest in the form of the charming Imogen Poots.

Badgley doesn't look too much like Jeff Buckley, but if that's really his voice crooning in the trailer, he sure does nail the sound of the doomed singer, which is no easy feat. The film hits theaters and VOD on April 16, but you can get a sneak peek below:
