Bad news for all you 'Hobbit' fans headed to Comic-Con 2013: Peter Jackson has announced -- with much regret, of course -- that he won't be making an appearance or presenting any new footage from 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.' But there's also good news! This means he'll stay busy finishing the film so it meets its December release date on time, and he's unveiled nearly 10 minutes of new behind-the-scenes footage.

Sometimes you just gotta take the good with the bad, which is true in the cast of 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.' In a behind-the-scenes video posted to his Facebook page, Peter Jackson announced that he's just too darn busy trying to finish the sequel to bring any sizzle reel or trailer or what have you to Comic-Con. Jackson and most of the cast are still shooting in New Zealand, and will be continuing throughout the month of July. And then comes the editing and final preparations to ensure the film makes it to theaters.

Jackson addresses any possible questions that might arise, like whether he could send a small panel of actors -- the answer to both is no. He's just too busy! Filming and completing the final two 'Hobbit' films is a demanding job, guys.

So would you rather have an incomplete film or a preview at Comic-Con? We're pretty sure we know the answer to that one. However, we can find solace in watching this nearly 10-minute-long video blog from 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' set. Check it out (above), and give us your thoughts on the film in the comments.
