‘How I Met Your Mother’ Season 8 Casts’ ‘SNL’ Star Abby Elliott

'Saturday Night Live' star Abby Elliott may be departing the series that made her famous, but she won't be staying away from the tubes for very long.  Like her father before her, Abby Elliott will next take her talents to the eighth (and potentially final) season of 'How I Met Your Mother,' but as whom?  Might the 'SNL' star prove another conquest for Barney on his road back to Robin?  Has Ted picked up another lady destined to be cast aside for the mother?  Your answers await inside!

Entertainment Weekly reports today that recently-departed 'Saturday Night Live' star Abby Elliott will land on the eighth season of 'How I Met Your Mother,' as part of a multi-episode arc,  The new season begins on September 24, though it isn't known when exactly Elliott will appear.

“We’re thrilled to have the hilarious Abby Elliott joining us in an arc as Janeane, the craziest girl the 'HIMYM' gang has ever encountered. And the strange, inexplicable phenomenon is: the crazier Janeane gets, the more attractive one of the gang finds her,” says executive producer Craig Thomas. “It doesn’t end well.”

Nepotistically Interestingly, the 'SNL' star's father Chris Elliott also maintains a recurring role on the series as Lily's father Mickey Aldrin.  Elliott is one of three 'Saturday Night Live' cast members departing before the current season, including Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis reportedly eying an eventual exit as well.  Chris Elliot too once belonged to 'Saturday Night Live.'

Elliott joins a number of famous faces guesting on what may be 'How I Met Your Mother's final season, including 'Breaking Bad's Bob Odenkirk,  ‘True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello as Marshall’s law-school friend Brad, Ashley Williams as Ted’s one-time love interest Victoria, and ‘Battlestar Galactica’ vet Michael Trucco as Robin’s previously unnamed crush.  Former ‘Reno 911!’ star Thomas Lennon will appear as Klaus, the man Victoria left at the altar for Ted in season 7 finale “The Magician’s Code.”
