James Cromwell Boards the ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel
James Cromwell, who has one of those “Oh, it’s… that guy!” faces, which these days you’ll probably recognize best from American Horror Story, is joining J. A. Bayona’s Jurassic World sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal hasn’t specified what kind of role Cromwell will be playing, but, based on what kinds of roles he’s known for, it could be anywhere from creepy scientist to tree-hugging animal lover. Which, probably, are the two kinds of roles this movie is looking for. Jurassic World 2 is said to be about animal rights — specifically, using the dinosaurs InGen has engineered to comment on the state of animal rights activism today. It’s definitely somewhere the series has never gone before, and with Bayona at the helm, it could be fantastic.
Funny enough, Cromwell is an animal rights activist in real life, which could have had something to do with his interest in this movie. He was a vegetarian for a long time, and then became a vegan after playing farmer Hoggett in Babe, and often speaks out advocating against cruelty towards farm animals (particularly pigs). Farm animals don’t exactly do that well in the Jurassic Park movies, but dinosaurs as an allegory for animal rights might have been too good an opportunity to pass up.
Jurassic World 2 also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Justice Smith, Toby Jones, and Ted Levine, and hits theaters June 22, 2018.
