It's April. The calm before the storm. The buffer between the Spring movie season and the Summer movie season. In other words, it's the perfect time to release a Luc Besson-scripted sci-fi action film starring Guy Pearce. And wouldn't you know it, the opening five minutes of 'Lockout' are online right now!

If you've seen the trailer, you know the gist of it: the president's daughter (Maggie Grace) is trapped on a space station prison during a mass break-out and there is "only one man who can get her out." Although he's "the best there is," he's also a "loose cannon." This bundle of cinematic action tropes is none other than Guy Pearce...wearing his best Snake Plissken, of course. As you'll see in the clip below, the character Pearce is playing is awfully generic, but he seems to be having an absolute ball playing a wisecracking, nihilistic action hero. All of 'Lockout' looks completely ridiculous, so leave it to an actor as good as Pearce to plant his tongue firmly in cheek.

The first five minutes aren't exactly spoiler-filled (after all, they are, uh, the first five minutes), but here's the requisite spoiler warning before you venture too far in. The scene if part of the French promotion of the film, so feel free to ignore the subtitles running at the bottom of the video. Unless you speak French. If that's the case, go ahead and read til your heart's content.

If that wasn't enough for you, an extended clip from the film was released a few days ago. Unlike the clip above, this showcases a few scenes from the middle of the film (including the death of a character and a nutty zero gravity fight scene), so spoilerphobes should tread carefully.

'Lockout' opens on April 13. Did these clips inspire confidence and make it a must-see? Or have you been officially warned away?
