‘Magic Mike XXL’ Clip: Mike and the Boys Meet the Competition
Move over, Pitch Perfect 2 and Jurassic World — Magic Mike XXL is the sequel event of the summer. Or it might be, if the trailers are any indication, and at the very least, whoever has been cutting those trailers over at Warner Bros. deserves a promotion. A new clip dropped for the upcoming stripper sequel on The Ellen Show today, featuring the introduction of a new character, played by Ellen Show DJ tWitch.
It’s a pretty brief clip, and the sound of the music in the scene is overwhelmed by Ellen Degeneres’ studio audience (just a preview of what you’ll be surrounded by in theaters), but we do get a peek at tWitch’s character, a dancer named Malik. Channing Tatum’s Mike and his crew look appropriately concerned because Malik’s talents clearly rival Mike’s own — but that would make him an asset on their team.
Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, ‘Magic Mike XXL’ finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.
Magic Mike XXL features Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer and Kevin Nash reprising their roles from the first film, along with Elizabeth Banks, Andie MacDowell and Donald Glover. The film arrives in theaters on July 1.
