‘The Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ to Start Production Again in February 2017

It’s been a bumpy road for The Death Cure, to say the least. Earlier this summer, the next installment in The Maze Runner series was postponed indefinitely to allow Dylan O’Brien to recover from injuries he suffered during an on-set accident, leaving of the future of the franchise uncertain. But it looks like O’Brien may be close to to returning, as production is reportedly gearing up to continue next February.

Back in March, O’Brien suffered injuries to his face while filming The Death Cure, forcing Fox and director Wes Ball to delay production until May. But two months proved to be an insufficient amount of recovery time, leading the studio to postpone filming indefinitely and delay the release date by a full year.

Deadline now reports that production on The Death Cure will resume in February 2017 – which is when the sequel was originally set to hit theaters. O’Brien’s injuries weren’t the only thing causing a delay, as it took some time to work out schedules for his returning co-stars and crew members, who had been released when production was suspended.

Scorch Trials director Wes Ball is still on board to helm the sequel, which also stars Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rosa Salazar and Barry Pepper. Barring any further complications, The Maze Runner: The Death Cure will now hit theaters on January 12, 2018.
