‘Mortal Engines’ Trailer: London Is a City on Wheels That Wants to Eat You
Peter Jackson has found his newest epic franchise: He’s producing an adaptation of the first in Philip Reeve’s post-apocalyptic steampunk book series, Mortal Engines, and the first trailer has arrived online today. Watch it above.
This teaser played before screenings of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on its opening weekend, but those who haven‘t seen that movie had to wait till today for the first look at it to arrive online. The clip sets the story up pretty well: We’re now in a future version of Earth where cities have become roving wheeled monsters, traveling across the country to harvest the planet’s dwindling resources, waging wars with each other and gobbling up smaller towns for fuel.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
Mortal Engines stars Hugo Weaving, Stephen Lang, Robert Sheehan, and Hera Hilmar, and is directed by Christian Rivers, and hits theaters December 14, 2018.
