We’ll just have to wait a while to get it.

The all-female Ocean’s trilogy spinoff Ocean’s Eight has been racking up quite a cast list over the past few months: with a crew as motley as Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, Awkwafina, and possibly even Sarah Paulson, and Gary Ross directing, there’s no way this movie isn’t going to be a sight to behold. Now, Warner Brothers has finally announced a release date, which means all that’s left for us to do is wait. And wait. And wait. For June 8, 2018.

With shooting expected to be underway as early as later this month, we all thought we’d see the final product sometimes next summer, but that’s not to be. The reasoning behind this is probably nothing more than Warners already having a pretty full agenda for next year. Ocean’s Eight is now scheduled uncomfortably close to the 2018 premieres of Toy Story 4 and Jurassic World 2, not to mention that it opens on the same weekend as the Transformers franchise’s Bumblebee spinoff, which, well, who knows how that’s going to be.

Ocean’s Eight will see Danny Ocean’s sister, played by Sandra Bullock, gathering together a crew of misfits to steal a necklace form the Met Ball in the hopes of framing a gallery owner nemesis. Box office speculation aside, it sounds like a fun time already, and fits with the previous Ocean’s movies’ “yes, they’re criminals, but they’re fighting an even worse criminal, so they’re not really that bad” theme.
