Sean Bean may die in just about every movie he appears in, but that doesn't make him any less of badass. Although he's been a consummate supporting actor for well over a decade now, it looks like the success of 'Game of Thrones' may have put the leading man shine back on him. He's now attached to star in a post-apocalyptic thriller titled 'Scorched Earth.'

Currently being pitched to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival, 'Scorched Earth' takes place in "the future after an environmental disaster which left billions dead and turned the planet into a ravaged wasteland." Bean will star as "Atticus Gage, a bounty hunter, who receives the bounty of a lifetime to track the world's most wanted criminal in these devastated badlands." You know what? Bean, with his grizzled toughness and honest intensity, is exactly the kind of actor who can play a sci-fi bounty hunter named "Atticus Gage" without looking silly.

The film, written by Bobby Mort and Kevin Leeson, will be the feature directorial debut of television director Brad Turner, who is best known for his work on '24' (although with hundreds of hours of TV under his belt, he's no rookie). Anyway, it's hard to screw up post-apocalyptic action movies -- even the bad ones are pretty awesome (God bless Italian filmmakers of the '80s). Between this, 2010's 'The Book of Eli' and the currently filming 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' it's a good time to be a fan of movies that take place in irradiated wastelands and feature tough guys killing each other dead.
