The Marvel and 'Star Wars' movie universes have been busy lining up and sorting out directors, but there's another potentially interesting major project that's looking to put a name in the director's chair. Universal is currently seeking a director for 'Snow White and the Huntsman 2,' and the names on their shortlist are intriguing.

According to Deadline, Universal is gearing up for a follow-up to 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' their alternative, dark and action-packed take on the classic tale of Snow White, starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron. The first film was directed by Rupert Sanders, who will not be returning to helm the second outing -- presumably also not returning: Theron's wicked queen character, who was vanquished in the first film.

On Universal's shortlist for directors for the sequel are Frank Darabont, who helmed Stephen King adaptations 'The Mist,' 'The Green Mile' and 'The Shawshank Redemption,' and served as showrunner for season 1 of 'The Walking Dead.' Also mentioned are Gavin O'Connor, who directed the acclaimed 'Warrior' and recently stepped in to direct the Natalie Portman Western 'Jane Got a Gun' when Lynne Ramsay exited the project, and 'Mama' director Andres Muschietti, who was briefly attached to Universal's 'Mummy' reboot.

Each name is certainly exciting in its own right, and while Darabont seems like the right fit for a grim fantasy-action tale, we'd be interested to see what Muschietti gives us after his breakout debut.
