A Big ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Shakeup Will Push ‘Supergirl’ Season 3 to June
We’d always wondered how long The CW could keep folding DC dramas into its lineup, and the schedule might finally have cracked. Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow will begin trading timeslots in 2018, pushing Supergirl’s finale all the way into June.
Seeing as The CW will slot Black Lightning into the Legends of Tomorrow timeslot Tuesdays at 9:00 P.M., beginning January 16, the Legends will briefly find themselves homeless. Supergirl will eventually come to their rescue, airing four new episodes from January 15 to February 5, then giving up the Monday 8:00 P.M. timeslot to Legends on February 12.
So, what happens to Supergirl? Well, the Legends will burn through their final nine Season 3 episodes, airing a finale on April 9. Supergirl will then swoop back in to resume her own third season on April 16, pushing the finale all the way to June 18, well beyond Flash or Arrow.
Lest you worry that The CW isn’t too keen on Supergirl anymore, Season 3 has been averaging 1.9 million weekly total viewers, which itself is slightly higher than Legends of Tomorrow. Airing new episodes all the way through June is admittedly out of place, but – until The CW commits to an all-DC lineup – sacrifices need be made.
In either case, Supergirl will kick off 2018 on January 15, with Flash and Black Lightning the following day. Stay tuned for the latest in the meantime.
