Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have officially announced the start of production on their new Godzilla sequel, with Krampus director Michael Dougherty at the helm of the film that brings us one step closer to an epic crossover with Kong. Although the previously revealed title — Godzilla: King of the Monsters — is curiously absent from this morning’s announcement, it does offer some intriguing new plot details…including which classic monsters we can expect to see in the follow-up to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 blockbuster.

With the recent announcement that Transformers: The Last Knight would be hitting theaters two days earlier  —  moving from Friday, June 23 to Wednesday, June 21  —  fans are closer than ever to seeing their favorite Autobots (and humans) throw down against a reluctantly evil Optimus Prime. This is the summer of heel turns by beloved franchise characters; first we saw Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto betray his family in The Fate of the Furious, and now we’re counting down the days until Optimus Prime stabs Bumblebee in the face. Rough summer for heroes, it would seem.

With all the new reviews and interview coming out of Toronto this past week —  it’s kind of like Comic-Con International, but for the arthouse crowd  —  it’s totally understandable if you missed some of the casting notices or odds-and-ends about upcoming productions. So here’s one important bit of news you might have overlooked: according to Deadline, Julianne Moore is set to headline a cast of impressive actors for the Paul Weitz adaptation of the bestseller Bel Canto.

Since establishing himself as a worthy dramatic actor, Matthew McConaughey has had a career out of characters in deep introspection, men questioning the meaning and mysteries of the world around them. He did it best with Rust Cohle, he did it again with Cooper in Interstellar, he did it in those Lincoln commercials, and there were hints of it in ‘Free State of Jones.’ And now McConaughey is on another spiritual journey, this time in a forest.

When Gus Van Sant’s latest feature The Sea of Trees debuted at Cannes nearly a year ago, expectations were high. A skilled actor’s director, Van Sant’s collaboration with buzzy star Matthew McConaughey was presumed to be an insta-hit and a possible Oscar contender in the making. McConaughey’s professional capital has never been higher, and the Cannes set has always been fond of Van Sant, awarding him the Palme d’Or for his school-shooting drama Elephant in 2003. So it came as that much more of a shock when audiences roundly rejected The Sea of Trees, complete with booing and walkouts. (Though that sounds a bit more dramatic than it is. Cannes audiences love big gestures; nearly everything gets either a standing ovation or jeering, and in the rarest of occasions, both.)

It may still be a few years before we see Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme on the big screen, but following the studio’s official confirmation of Benedict Cumberbatch’s casting in ‘Doctor Strange,’ we’re going to start hearing more updates and rumors about the film. Take the latest rumor, for instance, which has Marvel eyeing Morgan Freeman, Bill Nighy, and Ken Watanabe—not for three different roles, but all for the same supporting role in the film. Very intriguing.

Warner Bros. and Legendary are doing a great job stirring up excitement for 'Godzilla,' and today brings the first official clip from the film, which features the set-up for quite an impressive monstrous showdown -- it also informs us that Godzilla might not be the big baddie of this film after all.

Warner Bros. recently screened 'Godzilla,' the Gareth Edwards-directed reboot of the Toho classic, for select members of the press (insert self-congratulatory back pat). Though the rest of the world still has to wait until the beast stomps into theaters on May 16, the studio released a hefty photo gallery of 29 images (including some behind-the-scenes moments) from the film, in addition to teasing

'Guardians of the Galaxy' is going to be a big movie that takes Marvel further into outer space concepts, so they need a performer to anchor the film. A human who serves as the bridge between its alien and human worlds. And that bridge may be John C. Reilly.
