How do you save a franchise that never really took off? Combine it with another, bigger one from (technically) the same universe, of course! While Michael Bay has, uh, transformed Transformers into a billion-dollar industry with his live-action movies, G.I. Joe hasn’t exactly done as well. Apparently, there was talk at one point of joining the two franchises together in what would have been a beautiful, violent mess.

It’s been a rough road for D. J. Caruso’s haunted house horror The Disappointments Room — with Relativity Media going bankrupt, the film has had a difficult time grabbing a release date after it was removed from the studio’s release schedule. Finally, it’s been announced that The Disappointments Room will have a limited release and VOD premiere in September, and you can watch the first trailer right now.

Back in August, Vin Diesel revealed that he’s returning to the xXx franchise (for some crazy reason), and that filming would potentially begin this December. The actor has backtracked on that just a little — while he’s not sure when the sequel will begin shooting, he does know who will be behind the camera.

Despite two wildly different approaches with ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ and ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ Paramount still hasn’t managed to get their big screen take on everyone’s second favorite ‘80s toy/cartoon franchise right (with the first being ‘Transformers,’ of course). The box office has been decent, but fan reaction has been middling at best, with everyone in the world giving both films a big ‘ol shrug. But Paramount is not giving up on this potential gold mine yet! It seems that they have some pretty wacky plans to make ‘G.I. Joe 3’ into a must-see experience, including two familiar villains and a crossover with the characters from ‘M.A.S.K.’

Although Paramount has ‘G.I. Joe 3’ slated for a 2016 release date, the upcoming sequel still doesn’t have a director. ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ director Jon M. Chu declined to return for the third installment, and we’d previously heard rumors that ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Green Lantern’ director Martin Campbell was in talks to take over. Today brings another update, as Paramount may have found their man in D.J. Caruso.

D.J. Caurso was announced to be in final negotiations for the science-fiction disaster movie 'Invertigo,' but it looks like it will happen with or without him: The film already has a release date of March 7, 2014. It's being produced by Neal Mortiz - who's coming off a hit with '21 Jump Street' - and was written by Ehren Kruger ('Scream 3,' 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon') and Bradley Cramp (who
