Game of Thrones

'Game of Thrones' is HBO's hit fantasy series based on the acclaimed novels by George R.R. Martin. Set in the fictional, medieval world of Westeros, 'Game of Thrones' sees rival houses fighting against each other (and against their own family members) for the Iron Throne. Among the series' vast arsenal of characters are the Starks, based in the frigid North; the Lannisters, who's sadistic Joffrey currently resides as King of Westeros; and the Targaryens, who's Daenerys is among the last of her family and is plotting a return to Westeros to smite her enemies with dragons after she was forced to flee as a child when a rebellion usurped her ruling family.

Season 6 more than ever stirred conversation on Game of Thrones’ rampant violence, against women especially, and a number of surprising voices have chimed in either way. Now, HBO star (and GoT showrunner David Benioff’s wife) Amanda Peet has come to the fantasy-drama’s defense, calling the outrage “really misplaced.”

As if Comic Con 2015’s Friday schedule in Hall H weren’t enough of a bloodbath between Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Walking Dead, in comes Game of Thrones for the (gratuitous and controversial) kill. HBO’s flagship drama will again ascend Comic-Con’s throne with a full panel, this time hosted by Seth Meyers.

Now that casting and pre-production on Game of Thrones Season 6 have gotten underway (with vigilant fans eying Kit Harington’s hair and movements like a hawk), HBO has already chosen its first director of the new season. Not only that, but more leaked casting reports and audition sides might tease some big Dothraki names, a major Northern presence, and a new scene partner for Tyrion.

There is a whole lot of unpleasant violence on Game of Thrones, which makes you wonder how the actors might cope with those intense scenes on set. Emilia Clarke (along with Arnold Schwarzenegger) recently appeared on BBC's Graham Norton Show to discuss Terminator Genisys, but she also took some time out from promoting that film to talk about her role on Game of Thrones — and the special way Jason Momoa lightened the mood on set.

For five seasons now, Game of Thrones has labored tirelessly to imbue every one of its costumes with such elaborate detail as to enrich the world of Westeros, even as knives rip through every layer, but it seems a change is in store for Season 6. Game of Thrones’ Emmy-nominated costume designer has stepped down after five years, leaving the HBO epic to bring in a veteran Jurassic World designer in her place.

Meet the ‘Game of Thrones’ Body Double Who Performed Cersei’s Naked Walk of Shame
One of the most harrowing moments of the Season 5 Game of Thrones finale (of which, there were many) was Cersei’s walk of shame as the Queen Mother was forced to walk, naked, through the streets of King’s Landing as punishment for confessing adultery with her cousin, Lancel Lannister. It was a powerful scene, one that sparked immediate appreciation for actress Lena Headey’s performance. But, there’s someone else who should also get some credit: body double Rebecca Van Cleave, who actually performed the walk naked on set.

The internet is awash with grief after last night’s Game of Thrones finale “Mother’s Mercy” seemingly killed off one of the series’ biggest characters, and no amount of confirmation from stars or showrunners can extinguish fan hope of a resurrection. That said, at least one aspect of the finale’s climactic death remains unexplained, and might well light the way North of the Wall in Season 6.
