Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur

Today in release date news: Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur has been pushed back from its 2016 slot to February 2017, with Warner Bros. trying to capitalize on the box office precedent set by another violent film directed by a white British guy. Meanwhile, the long-awaited Bad Santa 2 has been given an official 2016 release — just in time for next year’s holiday season.

Oh boy. In true Guy Ritchie fashion, the director’s King Arthur movie is supposed to be a departure from the classic tales, featuring Average White Man Charlie Hunnam in the role of the storied hero. We were not aware, however, that the King Arthur movie is merely a ploy to sell hunky “Men of the Round Table” calendars to your aunts.

There have been various new 'King Arthur' projects in the works for a while now, but the latest incarnation will put Guy Ritchie behind the camera to kick off the first in a planned series of six films -- and they've just found their leading man: 'Sons of Anarchy' and 'Pacific Rim' star Charlie Hunnam has been crowned the king.
